Student Relief Funding
Delaware State University was committed to making the maximum amount of relief and support available to students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, DSU was allocated $2,782,960 in emergency student aid for eligible students who incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19.
Funds could only be awarded for "expenses related to the disruption of campus operations, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses." Recipients had to meet the eligibility criteria in Section 484 of the Title IV Higher Education Act — including making satisfactory academic progress, not owing a Title IV overpayment, not being in default, being a U.S. citizen/eligible noncitizen, and having a FAFSA on file.
Who Received These Funds
- Group 1 — Spring 2020 graduating students (degree program, at least half-time, 2019-20 FAFSA, Section 484 eligible): $500 award.
- Group 2 — Spring 2020 enrolled students with EFC less than 5,576: $500 award.
- Group 3 — Spring 2020 enrolled students with EFC greater than 5,576: $250 award.
- Group 4 — Title IV eligible students with qualifying expenses not in Groups 1–3 could submit an individual appeal for up to $250.
Students could not receive more than the identified amount in total. DACA and international students, and students in fully online programs, were not eligible. Awarding took place in phases via myDESU notifications, where students confirmed expenses, accepted/declined, and provided a current address. For more information, see the CARES Act Relief Fund FAQ.
