Healthy Hornet Habits: Dimensions of Wellness
There are multiple components to wellness. Considering each dimension helps you achieve optimal health, and each comes with healthy "Hornet Habits" you can implement daily.
Mental/Emotional
Focuses on your internal state, the ability to channel focus, and regulate feelings. Healthy habits include practicing gratitude (e.g., a daily gratitude log), limiting distractions (turn off nonessential notifications, set times to check email, avoid multitasking), and engaging your mind through reading, music, gardening, or learning something new.
Physical
Taking care of your body improves your quality of life now and in the future. Healthy habits include prioritizing sleep (7–9 hours for ages 18–64, with a consistent routine and reduced evening screen/caffeine/alcohol), moving your body (walking or biking to work, regular exercise), and consuming a healthy diet (high-protein/low-sugar snacks, staying hydrated, limiting alcohol).
Social
Creating and maintaining healthy relationships builds a support network. Healthy habits include calling loved ones to check in, making eye contact and actively listening, honoring commitments, and using technology to stay connected.
Community, Financial & Purpose
The wellness framework also includes Community, Financial, and Purpose dimensions, each with its own Healthy Hornet Habits to round out a balanced approach to well-being.
Events
Employee Wellness hosts events throughout the year (for example, in the fall, winter, and spring terms). Check Campus Health Services for the current schedule.
